We went to Joy to learn how intimacy can create relational joy, teach us about ourselves in relationships of all types, and to clarify our intentions in the current relationship. She used a variety of tools and frameworks to help us see our attachment styles, personality structures, communication mis-matches, and protective mechanisms honed in childhood. More practical were tools for repairing ruptures and using the repair to build deeper trust and further intimacy.
